A story by me in the Ann Leckie "Translation State" fandom, "Restoration Through Disassembly" [AO3].

After one of Translator Dlar's selves is killed during the "Translation State" events, Presger Translators resurrect it. To restore it to wholeness, it needs to have the human parts of its brain re-patterned anew. This can only be done by reading neural connections off of a brain of a human volunteer. That volunteer is Ambassador Seimet. When the process veers off course, Seimet has to reconcile the empathy she feels for Translator Dlar with her feelings about what the Presger had done to her.

Written for Feveruary 2025 Day 10 prompt "You're safe, it was just a dream."
